How the HVAC Static Pressure & Friction Rate Calculator Works
Available static pressure is the fan's external static pressure budget remaining after non-duct components such as filters, coils, grilles and other accessories are deducted. That remaining pressure is available to overcome duct and fitting resistance.
Total effective length combines straight duct length with fitting equivalent lengths along the design path. The calculator divides the available static by TEL and reports the corresponding friction rate in inches of water column per 100 ft.
This is a design starting point, not a substitute for checking the final critical path. After sections are sized, recalculate actual fitting and straight-duct losses and verify the selected fan operating point.
