Methods & scope
Know what goes into the result.
MEPFlow supports engineering decisions with visible inputs and repeatable calculations. Review the selected method, scope and project assumptions before using an output.
Underfloor Heating
Design water-based radiant floor loops, manifolds and heated areas. Use linked room loads or manual demand, then review floor output, extra heat needed, circuit flow and loop head. Export a PDF layout and schedule or CSV schedule.
Designer review
Check the actual floor assembly, manufacturer rating, water temperatures, spacing and surface-temperature limits. The specific Uponor Minitec preset is not a universal output model. Review full circuit lengths, bends, wall passages, feed congestion and current calculation status. The hydraulic basis is water; electric heating, glycol and a complete plant-selection calculation are outside this scope.
Sanitary drainage
Lay out fixtures, gravity branches, stacks and a main drain; accumulate drainage fixture units and review pipe sizes, slope and fall.
Designer review
The module checks supported NPC 2020 branch, stack and main-drain cases. Review busiest-storey loads, locked sizes, invert references and warnings. It does not design venting, trap arms, cleanouts, stormwater or pumped drainage.
Heating & cooling loads
Model room geometry and thermal inputs, then review room and block load estimates.
Designer review
Cooling uses ASHRAE RTS; winter heating uses steady-state heat loss. Monthly mode evaluates twelve design days, with an entered custom-day alternative. Review source data and component results. Formal certification and equivalence to HAP, IES VE or Manual J are not claimed.
HVAC duct design
Lay out supply and return systems, assign airflow and review duct sizing and pressure calculations.
Designer review
Check system connectivity, airflow sources, selected sizing criteria, fittings and the pressure path. A drawn line or calculated size alone does not establish a complete design.
Domestic-water design
Organize fixtures and service demand, connect cold/hot systems and review pipe sizes.
Designer review
Keep cold, hot and recirculation roles distinct. Verify available pressure, developed length, elevation, device losses and velocity; a table lookup is only part of final sizing.
Hydronic design
Work from equipment duty or flow through connected heating/chilled-water pipe layouts.
Designer review
Review fluid properties, temperature difference, circuit flow, actual inside diameter and losses. Check linked/manual demand and the critical circuit.
Loads: method, output and evidence
Reviewable outputs
The current Loads code produces room and coincident load summaries, component results, a load-schedule CSV and a calculation-report PDF. Reports identify weather assumptions, engineer-entered outdoor-air rates, room results and consistency warnings.
Inspect the worked example and reportWhat has been checked
The sample report was generated with the existing app engine and exporter. Independent checks match its wall, window and roof heating components and entered outdoor airflow. The repository also contains published-reference regression cases; these do not establish whole-product certification or universal accuracy.
The method reference is 2025 ASHRAE Fundamentals, Chapter 18. Peak design loads and annual energy use are different calculations. Complete HVAC-system effects and final equipment performance require additional review.
Canadian plumbing calculators: NPC 2020
The public domestic-water calculator uses NPC 2020 fixture-unit values and Table A-2.6.3.1.(2)-F. The sanitary calculator checks supported drainage tables and relevant size minima. The water result is a table-based candidate within the Average Pressure Loss Method; sanitary results do not design the complete venting and drainage network.
Confirm the edition, amendments and requirements adopted for your project location. A national model-code reference is not automatic approval in every jurisdiction.
Review an output in context
- Confirm units, scale, geometry and connected system roles.
- Check design conditions, loads/demands and manual overrides.
- Review warnings, unsupplied items and stale results.
- Verify final selections against project and authority requirements.
